The best strategy to bury negative search result on Google is to put your money/time into those methods that actually work. At Affordable Reputation Management, this is exactly what we do. We offer affordable monthly pricing with a satisfaction guarantee for the first month, providing a refund if you’re not satisfied.

The Strategies We Use To Bury Negative Google Results

With that being said, here’s a summary of the some of the specific strategies we’ve found to yield the best results.

  1. Social Media: Utilize the platforms that rank the highest on Google, such as like LinkedIn, Facebook, Instagram, Pinterest, Twitter, and TikTok. LinkedIn and Facebook are particularly effective as they often rank well with just a profile creation. The other platforms may require more activity and followers to rank higher.
  2. Interview Websites: Feature interviews on high-authority sites stand out on Google if you do them right. These interviews should be lengthy and include your individual or business name in the title, content, and URL. A handful of interview sites where you can get published include BillionSuccess.com, Inspirery.com, and IdeaMensch.com.
  3. Press Releases: Leverage press releases distributed through high domain authority sites. This strategy regained effectiveness recently, with the ability to optimize releases for specific names or brands. If you stick to releases that are 1,000–1,500 words with unique, engaging news that people actually care about, your PR will do well on Google. A couple of the press release distribution sites we use include EINPressWire and GlobeNewswire.
  4. Exact Match Domains: Use websites with domain names that exactly match the keyword or name to be protected. This is usually yourname.com or yourbusiness.com. You can also do variations such as yournamecity.com or yournamecharity.com. I use Bluehost or GoDaddy for the majority of sites we do for clients. You don’t need to be super fancy, just choose a free theme, use free stock images (or take your own) and add content. I recommend a home page, blog with at least 3 posts, about page, and contact page.
  5. Alter Ego Strategy: Create a fictional online persona with the same name and apply the first four strategies to this persona. Yes, it’s legal. In fact, half our clients opt for this strategy for two reasons:
  • Takes less time for them to approve the content we create
  • Provides them with a higher level of anonymity

6. Link Building: Link building for SEO is hard, time-consuming work. But for online reputation management, it’s easy. Just interlink all of your content to one another. For example, on your exact match website, you would like to all of your social media. In your press release, you link out to one of your interviews. And of course, link your social media platforms to each other. By doing all of this, you let Google’s algorithm know these assets are all related to you or your business. Then Google knows to rank them higher when someone searches for you.

Bonus Tips

7. Outdated Strategies: A few things that used to work, but not so well anymore include using free Web 2.0 sites like About.me, Wordpress.com, Blogger.com, Weebly.com, and Tumblr.com. These sites have been spammed so much over the years that they no longer rank well. Medium, on the other hand, does seem to rank well, which is why I’m using it right now!

8. Premium Placements: Though not typical, placements in high-profile sites like Forbes, Entrepreneur, Inc, and HuffPost are available for those with larger budgets. These placements offer credibility but are expensive and offer less content control. If you have the budget (usually thousands per post), these placements almost always rank on page 1 of Google.

Summary

How far you decide to bury negative search results on Google is up to you. Many of our clients downshift into maintenance mode after their negatives have been pushed out of the top 20 search results. This strategy allows them to continue to build and strengthen their online presence without breaking the bank.
